Further Details

Tenure
Fellowships and Scholarships are tenable for any period from one month to one year between 1 September of the current year to 30 June of the following year. Extensions to the original period of the Fellowship may be possible, subject to the same terms.

What the Institute Offers
The Institute offers shared office accommodation with WiFi, internet/email, photocopying facilities, and access to the Institute's Germanic Studies Library, the Senate House Library, and the libraries of other Institutes within the School of Advanced Study. Admission to the British Library can be arranged. Fellows/Scholars are offered free access to all Institute events, and are encouraged to participate actively in these. Fellows/Scholars in receipt of external sponsorship are asked to pay a bench fee of £100 per month.

What Visiting Fellows/Scholars Do
Fellows/Scholars are required to contribute to the scholarly activity of the Institute and to the wider activity of the School of Advanced Study. Where their stay in London allows, Fellows/Scholars are expected to contribute a presentation to one of the Institute's research seminars. Fellows/Scholars are invited to place a recent, normally unpublished, piece of work in our e-repository, SAS-Space. Publications resulting from research conducted during the tenure of the Fellowship must acknowledge the Institute and, where appropriate, a copy should be deposited in the Germanic Studies Library. At the conclusion of their stay, Fellows/Scholars are asked to write a short report on the progress they have made in their research for internal reporting and possible publicity.

Accommodation
Accommodation is not provided and award holders should make their own arrangements. A list of hotels and guest houses is available on our website, and we can also put award holders in touch with people offering private accommodation. The University of London Accommodation office can also assist.

Visas (New Legislation)
Regulations require non-European nationals to obtain an ID card before entering the UK. At the time of applying for an entry visa, the Visa office should provide award holders with appropriate forms enabling them to acquire an ID card, which will be valid until the visa expires.
